Ok, so I have to admit that Instagram got me hooked big time.  It is just such a creative space and I am always excited to find interesting people, brands or places I’d never heard of before. Today, I would like to share with you the work of photographer Denton Taylor which captivated me because of his great photos of stylish people in NYC. After liking and commenting on many of his photos on Instagram, I approached Denton to hear more about his work and life. Needless to say I was very happy to hear he was a (cool) baby boomer who lived in NYC his whole life and has been photographing since childhood.

His interest in fashion only started in the last decade or two. He explains his interest in fashion photography: “I was always a typical male, no interest in fashion whatsoever. However walking past the windows for years on Fifth Avenue must have finally started to sink in, and I started noticing the beauty, the lines, the art, and the construction of garments. So slowly I started getting involved in the area.”

He photographs people mostly at special events, such as NYC Fashion Week where people are more likely to give permission, and you can take a lot of good photos in a short time span. He also holds a “day job” but it involves being in various places around Manhattan which leaves him plenty of time “on the street” to photograph fashionistas.

As a blogger, I look at many images of street fashion and what I like about Denton’s is that he photographs people of all ages. He thinks it’s natural that he should work with older women as he is over sixty, but admits that even in his twenties, he never separated “younger women” from “older women”. “There were just beautiful women. I was always attracted to the greater self-confidence, intelligence, and experience of older women, and that hasn’t changed.”
